SMYC SMALL BOAT RACE 3 of 8, 13 May 2017

Saturday May 13, 2017 was SMYC's Small Boat Race 3 and the Southern California weather did not let us down! The sun was out and the winds were gusting steadily from the east, gracing us with the best winds of the season.

The race committee consisted of Bill and Marybeth, Lynda, Kahualani and myself, and the good winds and heavy traffic in the basin provided for an entertaining afternoon for those of us on the docks!

The wind enabled the committee to utilize our longer racecourses that take the boats up the channel twice.
This was made particularly challenging for the boats due to the Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Ferrying Marines from ship to shore.

After a short break for lunch the boats were off again for another long course followed by a short sprint to close out the day.
When all the boats were stowed we were treated to a nice picnic and refreshments prepared by Teri for everyone to enjoy.

As always, there were members who would crew if needed, so don't let a lack of crew keep you from coming down and enjoying a day with us.

If you don't feel like sailing, join us on the back of Blue Teal with the race committee.
Saturday was both enjoyable and exciting to watch, with photo finish in one race, near collisions and lots of outsider activity on the water.

I hope to see you Saturday, May 20th for our next race!
