Santa Margarita Yacht Club Oorah Regatta Nov. 3 2018
On a bright warm sunny November morning SMYC hosted the annual Oorah Regatta and invited Navy Yacht Club San Diego to enter 2 teams to compete in this annual event. This race day is a highpoint in the racing schedule as this annual event allows racers in each of our clubs to compete and share a day building new friendships. We prepared a light breakfast for members and race teams to be relaxed and social. Our club had a excellent crew in the galley Audrey, Marybeth, Susan, and Jane set the spread out and assisted guests and members loading a plate.
The winds were very light as 4 Capri boats set sail in the Del Mar basin. The first race horn sounded an the boats were able to make decent time around the marks. The wind started to fill in by the start of our second race and fortunately that would continue for the entire afternoon. SMYC was successful in retaining our Trophy and helping Navy Yacht Cub chalk up a loss with pizza, camaraderie, and cold beer. We enjoyed hosting this event and I believe NYC enjoyed participating.
The results are as follows:
First Place Patrick and Steve ( SMYC )
Second Susan and Jay ( SMYC )
Third David and Evan ( NYCSD )
Fourth Mary and Maureen ( NYCSD )
Our club ran 10 race events in 2018 and I would like to thank the members who support racing and race committee duties. We hope in 2019 that the thrill of placing our hand on a tiller or sheeting a jib at Santa Margarita continues well into the future.
